Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)

Restore Strength. Relieve Pain. Rediscover Life.

What is EDS?

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of connective tissue disorders that can cause joint instability, tendon and ligament injuries, muscle tears, and chronic pain. These symptoms often limit mobility, reduce quality of life, and make everyday tasks a challenge.

Why Regenerative Therapy?

Unlike medications that simply mask pain, regenerative therapies aim to repair and strengthen the damaged tissue—helping people with EDS heal from the inside out.

What Treatments Are Available?

1. Prolotherapy
A glucose solution injected into areas of injury. The inflammatory response can be used to help repair ligament and joint issues.

2. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Your body’s own platelets are concentrated and injected into areas of injury. These platelets release growth factors that accelerate tissue repair.

3. Bone Marrow Aspirate Stem Cells
Extracted from your own bone marrow, these powerful stem cells help regenerate tendons, ligaments, and joints damaged by EDS.

4. Adipose-Derived Stem Cells
Collected from a small sample of your fat tissue, these cells promote soft tissue healing and reduce inflammation.

Conditions We Treat

Regenerative therapies are especially helpful for:

  • Chronic joint instability

  • Recurrent tendon or ligament tears

  • Muscle strains and microtears

  • Hypermobile joint pain

The solution does not contain any steroids like cortisone which can slow down or stop the healing process. This treatment is generally well tolerated, without any major difficulties. PRP procedures are outpatient and patients are able to return home the same day.

All procedures are performed by Dr. Maria Hopp who is trained and certified by the American Association of Orthopedic Medicine (AAOM).

Regenerative Treatments at TLC

At TLC, we offer Prolotherapy, Platelet Rich Plasma, and Bone Marrow Aspirate injections as non-surgical options. One of these treatments is not necessarily better than the other, and they operate based on a similar mechanism. The primary difference between these procedures is the solution or substance that is injected – with prolotherapy we inject a glucose solution, with PRP we inject concentrated platelets from your own blood, and the third option is stem cells harvested from your bone marrow. Deciding which treatment may be best for you can be done after an evaluation by Dr. Hopp.
