Reversing Cognitive Decline

The Bredesen ProtocolTM and ReCODE ReportTM

One in 10 individuals in the United States age 65 or older has Alzheimer’s disease.

According to a 2017 report by the Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 5.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. There has been an 89 percent increase in deaths due to Alzheimer’s between 2000 and 2014. Additionally, the number of affected individuals is increasing as the population ages, and it is projected that the population of Americans age 65 and older will double by the year 2050. Up until now, there has been very little that can be done to prevent, reverse or slow cognitive decline.

But that is changing – Alzheimer’s disease is now a treatable condition.

Dr. Dale Bredesen has worked and researched with other scientists for over 30 years to develop The Bredesen ProtocolTM. This groundbreaking program has been shown to reverse cognitive decline in patients with early Alzheimer’s, MCI (mild cognitive impairment) or SCI (subjective cognitive impairment). (Read Dr. Bredesen’s paper here: https://goo.gl/2koMg6). TLC is excited to offer this program to our patients. Dr. Hopp is a certified practitioner of this protocol, and has been trained by Dr. Bredesen.

Dr. Bredesen explains this protocol in detail in his book, The End of Alzheimer’s. Find it here: https://goo.gl/EUdHUV

The Program

Reversing and preventing cognitive decline is a complicated issue. Single medications don’t work…in fact, every clinical trial testing medications to reverse cognitive decline have been ineffective. There really is no easy fix.

The process of The Bredesen ProtocolTM involves gathering a variety of data including questionnaires, diagnostic imaging studies, lab work and neurocognitive testing to prepare a ReCODE ReportTM. This report analyzes your personal risk factors and calculates which treatments may be most effective. Under the direction of Dr. Hopp, a customized treatment plan will be prepared and implemented for you.

Using a systematic approach, cognitive decline can be prevented and reversed. Lifestyle modifications including diet, exercise and stress management are critical. We want to be up front and let you know that this requires effort, but it is worth it! We are committed to partnering with you every step of the way. Through weekly small group coaching sessions conducted by Dr Hopp and the TLC staff, you will learn the lifestyle modifications needed to have success in the program and will leave each session with individualized goals.

The Process

When beginning the program, our primary goal is to gather information. Your first visit with Dr. Hopp will last about an hour and a half, and will include numerous questionnaires, neurologic examination as well as ordering of various diagnostic tests.

Based on your results, we will create a custom treatment plan involving supplements, brain games and most importantly, lifestyle modifications. We have a six-month health-coaching program included in our package, so you will have ongoing support every step of the way. Six months after your first appointment, we will do many of the same tests again to assess your improvement.
